Page-setting
Once we have your manuscript, and you have given us the go-ahead to begin publication, we will page-set your book. This process concerns the choice of page size, font style and size, positions of pictures, etc. You can have as much say as you like in this design, although we do ask that you listen to our advice! If you'd prefer we can come up with some ideas for you to choose from, or you can leave it all to us.
It is important that you let us know all your ideas and plans for the book at this stage, as this is when the overall look of the book will be determined. However much imput you make, we will send a 'first proof' copy for your approval before anything else happens.
Proof-reading
Blot has its own proof-readers and, in the normal run of things, we will begin to seriously check the book, for grammatical mistakes and typographical errors, once you have approved the first proof. However, many authors prefer to proof-read their own books (as a cheaper option) although this isn't always the best idea; an author has already stared a hundred times at the words being checked, and it is very easy to miss mistakes when you know what's supposed to be there! It usually saves time in the long run if you let us proof-read it for you, but the choice is yours.
Printing
At the printing stage there will be a number of choices to make regarding paper quality, binding type, the quality of the cove, etc. To help you decide what you would like we will present the pros and cons of each, or we can make the choices for you, as you prefer.
We will obtain quotes, for printing and binding, from printers we know to produce good work. There might be cheaper firms about, but the cheapest job will not necessarily leave you with a nice book and a sturdy binding. Alternatively, if you have a printer already in mind, we can work with him.
